Hyaluronic acid is a long chain of sugar molecules that occurs naturally in the body. It is found in the entire body and serves to lubricate the tissues and keep them hydrated. Indeed, it can hold 1000 times its weight in water. HA is found in the skin and the connective tissues, and its water-retaining capabilities make it the main responsible for keeping the skin moisturized and plump. Moreover, HA helps to bind water to collagen, being also a key ingredient to maintain and enhance skin elasticity.

Despite its name, Hyaluronic Acid is not an acid but a type of glycosaminoglycan, GAG (GAGs are essential components of the extracellular matrix that make possible a number of biological processes).

As it happens with collagen, Hyaluronic Acid production decreases with age. Furthermore, it is a sensitive molecule that breaks down under the effects of free radicals and other oxidizing agents, as a result of UV exposure.

Therefore, maintaining the right levels of HA in your dermis can not only keep your skin more hydrated and healthier but also helps to slow down the skin aging process. Nowadays, we have more information and methods to help you promote the formation of HA or add some more into your skin by the use of cosmetic products and aesthetic medicine.

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR HA LEVELS

Hyaluronic acid is slowly broken down by the body through an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This process occurs naturally every day, and everyday HA slowly built up again. However, the production of new HA slows down as we age which causes a drop in HA levels.

Today we know that vitamin C and amino acids help to stimulate HA synthesis to a certain degree. So, eating foods or using supplements that contain these substances can help to counter a bit the decrease of HA levels. Nevertheless, there is a point in life when adding some Hyaluronic Acid to your skin topically or/and intradermally is the best way to boost hydration and elasticity, and slow down skin aging.

IS TOPICAL HYALURONIC ACID EFFECTIVE?

Topical Hyaluronic Acid acts in the epidermis, creating a layer on the skin surface that improves skin appearance and makes it look dewy, plump, bouncy, and soft. However, as topical HA does not reach the dermis, it does not have long-term antiaging effects on its own.

Although topical HA cannot be as effective as when applied intradermally, some formulas reduce the weight of HA to make it penetrate deeper into the epidermis and mix it with other ingredients that can promote its absorption and also stimulate the production of naturally-occurring HA.

This is the case of INNO-DERMA® Age Rescue 24H Cream. Its formula includes HA combined with Vitamin C, Retinol, Peptides and other ingredients that ease HA penetration and promote the production of new one. This cream has intense antiaging and rejuvenating properties. Be aware that as it contains retinol it is recommended to use it at night about three times a week, depending on your skin sensitivity.

INTRADERMAL HYALURONIC ACID

HA can be directly applied into the dermis through intradermal injections to improve several aesthetic concerns. It can enhance skin moisture, increase dermal density, or as implants (fillers) to correct wrinkles, folds, scars, and volumes.

We can divide intradermal Hyaluronic Acid into two types:

  • Non-crosslinked HA for Moisture and Revitalization

Toincrease dermal density and enhance moisture professionals generally use NON-CROSSLIKED HYALURONIC ACID. It is made of free HA molecules that, once injected, uniformly spread through the dermis, hence increasing skin density, deeply moisturizing, and revitalizing the skin.

  • INNO-CE® MOIST 1.5: Intensively enhances moisture and hydration.

  • INNO-CE® BI-DENS® 2.5: Increases dermal density, revitalizes, and deeply moisturizes.

  • Dermal Fillers: Crosslinked HA

Dermal fillers are made of CROSSLINKED OR STABILIZED HA, which are long chains of bound HA molecules. This form of Hyaluronic Acid is moldable and remains fixed in the injection area. In order to treat different concerns, the professional need to have fillers of different densities. For instance, fillers that improve loss of facial volumes are denser (more crosslinked) than those used for fine lines. The effects of HA fillers last between 6 to 8 months.  Another advantage of HA fillers is that they are 100% reversible. In the event that patient didn’t feel comfortable with the results, the filler can be immediately dissolved by the administration of Hyaluronidase.

INNOAESTHETICS provides professionals with 5 fillers at different densities to reverse the signs of aging, enhance and define lip contour, correct facial volumes and scars maintaining a natural appearance.
